    ONE MORE WEEK TO GO!

Tomorrow is Wayne from Maine, a childrens' musician.  He does all of the program so all that I have to do is show up with the kangaroo and count kids as they come through the door.  I finished up with the preschoolers last Friday.  Then all that I have left for summer programming is 2 Thursdays with the community center camp kids.  I think that I am going to take the easy road and play Bingo for books.

I bought a new vacuum, a Miele, and I love it!  Now all I need is time to run it.  That and my poor flower garden.  It really needs some attention too.  Hopefully August will have some time in it for both.

    Have a good day everyone.

    I HATE HAVING NO TIME!

July is an awful month for me.  It is just go, go, go.  I am very much looking forward to August when the summer reading program is done.  I love doing it, but it is sooooooo time consuming.

Today I am painting 100 paint paddles black so that tomorrw and Thursday the boys and girls can decorate them with white dots and lines and turn them into Aboriginal Clapsticks.

There is a gentleman who uses the library that is originally from Australia.  He has agreed to be our guest reader tomorrow.  I love his accent and I am sure that the boys and girls will too.

I promise there will come a day when I can get around to visit everyone.  I PROMISE!

    I love my job!

I say that with more than just a touch of sarcasm.  What I should say is that I love parts of my job.  But, everyday is different so there is no danger of getting bored.  I guess that's a good thing.

Tuesday I was in a 2 hour dept. head meeting talking about warrant articles and the 2009 budget and from there I went straight to a 1 1/2 hour library trustee's meeting to discuss how we were going to rob Peter to pay Paul so that we can cover the shortage in the heating budget among other equally exciting items.

Wednesday we hosted storyteller, Joanne Piazzi, for the summer reading program (it turned out to be the hottest day this summer).

Thursday was a mixed bag.  I worked on the circulation desk most of the day, talked with the local grocer about possible fundraising "opportunities," and fielded phone calls such as the lady who called to "suggest" what our outdoor maintainence person (the teenage girl who mows our lawn) could do to make things look a little nicer.  GRRRR!

Today, the day that I never have to be a grownup, is preschool story time.  We are going to have fun with koalas! Everybody sind-a-long now......

CUDDLY KOALAS (sung to the tune of Frere Jacques)

    Cuddly Koalas,
    Cuddly Koalas,

    Possums too,

    "G'Day Mates"

plus summer reading program kickoff 2008 092

Here he is folks, all the way from Australia by way of Europe, Kaleb the Kangaroo!  He took time out of his busy schedule to pose for me with his sister and his daughter (baby's mom had to work ).

The costume was made in Europe.  We are just renting it for the summer.  I'm sure that Kaleb, aka Jon, would quickly tell you that it is very warm inside that thing.  In fact, he is wearing a cooling vest with 8 ice packs in it! Standing straight up and measuring to the tip of the ears, it is over 8 ft. tall.

The boys and girls loved it!!!  We had a few kids who steered well around him, but not a single melt down.  Most wanted to climb up into his lap and give him hugs and kisses.  He also got roped into singing and dancing with the musicians, "Hip Hop Kangaroo."  Huge eprops to Jon for being such a good sport.

The curiosity question of the day was, "Why does he have a boy's name if he has a pouch?"  I'll have to do a little research on this one and get back to them!

    G'day for Reading!

Today is the official start to the Summer Reading Program.  Which for me means, the fun is just beginning.  I'll be doing programs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings for the next 6 weeks.

Today we have a performance and because we have extremely limited space at the library, it will be at the community center.  I am expecting 100+ children along with their parents.  It should be tons of fun.  And as a bonus, I am expecting my grandchildren there too!  We are hosting musicians and storytellers Steve Blunt and Joseph Carringer.  Joseph plays a didgeridoo, which is the coolest thing that I have ever heard.

Kaleb Kangaroo will be making an appearance too.  My usual wearer of the costume is away for the week so I have commandeered my son to do the honors.  I promised him that I would not put any pics in the family photo album, but I didn't say anything about xanga!  Stay tuned.  If I get a good shot, I'll post it. (Ain't I a stinker?)

In case you haven't picked up on all of the clues, we are doing an Australian theme.  It is a country rich with tradition and natural science.  I am really having a lot of fun preparing everything, but man what a lot of work it is!

And just for fun, see how much you know about our country, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25461301/  I made a score of 85%, so I guess I can stay.
